Image: Prediction: Haye will batter Wladimir in the clinchesBy Dave Lahr: You only have to watch one of IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s fights to pinpoint his biggest weakness and the one that WBA heavyweight champion David Haye is likely aiming for. Wladimir is what you’d call a chronic clincher. He clinches any chance he can get and uses this to shut down the attacks of his opponents more so than to rest.

Haye, on the other hand, doesn’t believe in letting his opponents get a free ride by holding. Since I don’t see Wladimir changing for this fight, I think Haye is going to take the tall stiff-legged Wladimir out within the first three rounds. Wladimir’s trainer Emanuel Steward has been warning him to stay out of the clinches, but Wladimir seems to lack the discipline needed to heed Steward’s advice. We’ve seen that in Wladimir’s recent fights against Samuel Peter and Eddie Chambers.

In both fights, Wladimir was clinching constantly but was lucky not to have to worry about Peter and Chambers taking advantage of Wladimir’s clinches by nailing him in the side head. Well, don’t expect Haye to place nice with Wladimir on July 2nd. This is going to be Haye’s best opportunity to take Wladimir out, because it will be too easy. Wladimir’s head will be right there for Haye and he can open up with his flurries at close range and take Wladimir out.

All it will take is one nice shot to the side or the back of Wladimir’s head and he’ll be goners. Haye can then flurry on a staggering Wladimir to finish him off and take his titles back to England where Haye can put pressure on WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko to bail on his September bout against Tomasz Adamek.
