Image: Super Six: Ward will put Abraham out of his misery on SaturdayBy Scott Gilfoid: Watching former IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (32-2, 26 KO’s) struggle in two out of his last three fights has been sad. It’s like watching an old game rooster who has lost his stride and has been replaced by a younger one. Age has nothing to do with Abraham’s decline. His problems are related to the fact that he’s finally stepped it up against quality opposition after years of milking his middleweight title against sub-par opponents and is getting exposed left and right.

On Saturday, Abraham is going to be exposed once again when he faces the Super Six tournament’s best fighter in unbeaten WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (23-0, 13 KO’s) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Ward is going to put Abraham out of his misery by easily beating him and sending him on his way back to his home country of Germany where he can lick his wounds and consider moving back down in weight.

Whoever gave Abraham the brilliant idea to move up in weight to the super middleweight division needs to have their head examined because this was a bad idea from the very star. Abraham was a small fighter even at middleweight, but at super middleweight, his lack of size has been highlighted over and over again. I had Abraham losing his fight with Jermain Taylor until Abraham got back in the fight when he hurt Taylor with a nice elbow in the 9th.

Taylor was never the same after that bone crunching shot. But before that, I had Taylor dominating Abraham and winning most of the rounds. So basically, Abraham has looked horrible in all three of his Super Six tournament fights and is about to face what will likely be his toughest fight and the wrong time. Abraham doesn’t seem to be able to forget his defeats, because he came into the Froch fight looking like a guy that just knew he was going to lose the fight. Abraham seemed unwilling to take the shots that he needed to in order to get close enough to land against the taller Froch.

Abraham didn’t seem eager to get hit, and he would have had to get hit a lot to have any chance of winning that fight. Now he’s about to face an even better fighter in Ward. Does anyone honestly think Abraham will win this fight? Nope! He’s going to get spanked and spanked badly by Ward. The good thing about this fight is that Abraham can finally have an end to the hell he’s been going through in the Super Six tourney and can move back down to middleweight and resume facing mostly European fodder for the remainder of his career.
