Image: Sprott: Haye's best chance to beat Wladimir is to get him earlyBy William Mackay: Former British and EBU heavyweight champion Michael Sprott (36-15, 17 KO’s) goes up against the big 6’8″ American Tye Fields (45-3, 41 KO’s) on Saturday night in the Prizefighter tournament at the Alexandra Palace in Muswell Hill, London. It will be three rounds of fast pace action that could end up favoring the southpaw Fields unless Sprott can connect with one of his hard power shots to take Fields out of there before he revs up his high volume punch out-put.

Sprott, who has sparred with IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) in the past, chimed in on his thoughts on the upcoming big showdown between Klitschko and WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) on July 2nd at the Imtech Stadium in Hamburg, Germany. Speaking with Sky Sports News, Sports said “I think it’s going to be tough. Everyone knows it will be a tough fight. It’s definitely the toughest he’s [Haye] faced. This is like his biggest challenge and he’s facing the best in the world. I believe if Haye stands a chance it will have to be early. I think the longer the fight the more it leans towards Wladimir. Haye is an explosive fighter and he’s very dangerous early. He’s very, very dangerous. I believe it’s early if he stands a chance against Wladimir.”

It’s pretty clear that Haye has to get to Wladimir early before Haye starts to run out of gas. If the fight goes beyond six, Haye will likely be punch drunk from swallowing Wladimir’s jabs and won’t be able to score a knockout even if he wants to by then. Plus, Haye doesn’t have the best conditioning and he’s likely going to be running for his life in this fight much more than he did in other fights at heavyweight.
