Roach willing to bet that Pacquiao beats Mosley

Image: Roach willing to bet that Pacquiao beats MosleyBy Chris Williams: If trainer Freddie Roach has his way his fighter Manny Pacquiao will knockout the 40ish Shane Mosley next Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roach wants a knockout win to somehow show how much better Pacquiao is than Floyd Mayweather Jr., who recently beat Mosley by a lopsided 12 round decision. But even if Pacquiao does score a knockout, he’s probably going to get hit a lot and not come look better than Mayweather.

Knockouts are fine but not when you have to get a ton to get them the way that Pacquiao usually is when he stops someone. Ricky Hatton was one of Pacquiao’s rare quick knockouts. Most of his fights go past seven rounds and involve him taking a lot of punishment to the head. Roach says he’s willing to bet – if he were a betting man – everything on Pacquiao winning the fight against Mosley.

Speaking with Edide Alinea at philboxing.com, Roach said “Yes, I’m willing to bet everything – my house, my car, everything I own – that Manny will be the hell out of Shane this coming Saturday and emerge with his reputation intact.” Well, I agree with Roach. When you pick them overly ripe like soon to be 40-year-old Mosley, yeah, the chances of getting a win are pretty high I’d say. But that’s not saying much, is it? What we don’t see is Pacquiao fighting guys like Sergio Martinez or Victor Ortiz. Instead we get Mosley, Antonio Margarito [*catchweight fight] and Miguel Cotto [*catchweight fight]. It’s easy when the deck is stacked in your favor.
