Image: Mosley says he'll give Pacquiao a rematchBy Dan Ambrose: It’s pretty much academic that 39-year-old Shane Mosley has little to no chance of beating Manny Pacquiao next week on May 7th, but don’t tell that to Mosley. He thinks he’s going to win and says he’ll give the Filipino star a rematch. Speaking with Yahoo Sports News, Mosley says “I’ll give Pacquiao a rematch.” Of course Mosley will. With the big money that he’ll be getting from this fight and from a rematch, why wouldn’t he?

Mosley sure isn’t going to get Floyd Mayweather Jr. to give him a rematch because he’s ankle deep in legal problems right now. Naturally, Pacquiao will be put back in with Mosley if he loses the fight. Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, isn’t going to steer him away from Mosley. We’re seeing Juan Manuel Lopez, another one of Arum’s fighters, fighting a rematch with recent conqueror Orlando Salido next, even though there’s a high chance that Lopez will be knocked out again.

Even if Arum was against a rematch between Pacquiao and Mosley, Pacquiao would likely insist on it and we’d have the fight anyways. However, the chances of pretty slim that Mosley is going to win this fight unless he looks a lot better than he did in his last two fights against Mayweather Jr. and Sergio Mora.

Arum says he’s worried about the Mosley fight. He realizes, he says, that Mosley is really motivated for this fight and still has excellent hand speed and power that could present a problem for Pacquiao. Arum could be just blowing smoke up boxing fans’ backsides but then again, maybe Mosley could pull this off. Pacquiao looks heavy with all the muscles he’s put on and he seems to fade in his fights now. He’s been matched mostly softly being pitted against struggling fighters in the past three years. Mosley could be step above the likes of previous Pacquiao opponents Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto.
