Haye, 30, refused to shake Wladimir’s hand during the meeting and continued with his war of words aimed at the 6’6″ Ukrainian.

Haye’s strategy seems to be aimed at angering Wladimir enough to the point where he’ll slug it out with him in their fight. It’s basically the only chance Haye has to win because he’s not much of a boxer and has only limited reach.

Here’s what Haye had to say about Wladimir: “I have seen his [Wladimir] style and I’ve seen what he does in the ring and I believe he is a fraud and the people he has fought have made him look spectacular. This time he has a prime athlete at his peak and someone coming off the back of some fine victories. This is the belt [speaking about his World Boxing Association strap] they have been claiming they have wanted for a long time but for whatever reason it didn’t happen. I believe it is because Valuev didn’t fit their little, fat American MO, but I am definitely going to mess with Wladimir. He tries to pick guys who fit his style perfectly and I’m not fooled by it. Even as a cruiserweight I could have knocked Klitschko out.”

Haye seems to be forgetting the heavyweights he’s been fighting since he moved up to the heavyweight division. He’s taken on the 38-year-old John Ruiz, 38-year-old Monte Barrett, 39-year-old Audley Harrison and the 36-year-old Valuev.

For his part, Wladimir said “I really respect you and you are a fantastic fighter with an impressive record. I believe it will be a pretty good lesson in respect on July 2nd.”

Like usual, Wladimir has opted to not trash talk and let his talking be done in the ring.

This could be Haye’s last fight of his career if he loses. He’s hoping to win the fight and then get a final fight with WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko later in the year. However, a loss to Wladimir basically ends it. Haye would then have no title and there would be no reason for the Klitschkos to further waste time with him.
