Dirrell picking Ward to beat Abraham

By Scott Gilfoid: The amazing talent Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) is picking fellow American WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (23-0, 13 KO’s) to beat Arthur Abraham tonight in their Super Six match-up in Carson, California. Dirrell knows what kind of skills that Ward has as they have sparred in the past and are close friends.

Dirrell also fought Abraham last year and was well on his way to beating Abraham until Dirrell slipped on the canvas and was hurt when Abraham fouled him with a big right hand while Dirrell sat on the canvas in a defenseless position. Abraham was then disqualified. But unfortunately, Dirrell was hurt bad enough from that punch to have to pull out of the Super Six tourney and still hasn’t fought since then.

Speaking with fightnews.com, Dirrell said “I predict Andre is going to win.”

Yes, Dirrell is wise a fighter and sees this fight the right way. Abraham has almost no chance of winning the fight other than a lucky knockout win. Dirrell sees the Ward-Abraham fight as a one-sided affair with Ward easily winning the bout. He does give Abraham a small chance, but only if he can land something big. I kind of doubt it. Abraham has no power on the inside and that’s where this fight will be taking place. Ward will get in close and mug Abraham. It’s going to be like a flea on a dog. Abraham is not going to be able to pry Ward off of him no matter how hard he tries to scrape him off. If Abraham had a good inside game like Sakio Bika, then I can see him giving Ward some problems in close but he doesn’t. This is going to be easy for Ward.
