Prediction: Ward to easily dominate Abraham tonight

By Scott Gilfoid: Look for WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (23-0, 13 KO’s) to easily beat a terribly over-matched Arthur Abraham (32-2, 26 KO’s) in one of the most lopsided fights in the Super Six tournament tonight in their 12 round fight at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Abraham has looked lost in the Super Six tourney for the most part, like a schoolboy struggling in an advanced class of mathematics without the skill to keep up.

Abraham’s lack of experience against quality fighters is really being exposed in the Super Six tournament because he’s floundered in fights against talents like Andre Dirrell and to some extent against Jermain Taylor. Abraham was also beaten by Carl Froch of Britain, but I see that loss as more of a case of Abraham coming into the fight already mentally defeated and over-trained.

You hate to say that a fighter only has a puncher’s chance of winning, but that’s unfortunately the only chance that Abraham has of winning tonight’s fight against Ward. He doesn’t have the boxing skills, the speed or the technical ability to match up with Ward in this fight. It’s really going to come down to whether or not Abraham can land a big home run punch to end the fight. If he only stuns Abraham and isn’t able to get him out of there, Abraham will lose badly. He has to score a knockout. It’s all or nothing for Abraham. And he looked terrible in his last fight against Stjepan Bozic in February. I can’t remember the last time that Abraham looked good. I guess you’d have to go way back in his middleweight days when he beat Raul Marquez in 2008.

Ward is going to take Abraham to school on the inside tonight and take his heart. Abraham is a poor inside fighter and won’t have a clue what to do with Ward draped on him all night. It’s going to be funny. Ward is going to show his brilliance and move on to the Super Six finals to await the June 4th winner between Froch and Glen Johnson.
