By Eric Thomas: Light welterweight contender Breidis Prescott (23-2, 19 KO’s) takes on Mongolian Bayan Jargal (15-1-3, 10 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout that will be shown on ESPN2 at the Mohegan Sun Casino, in Uncasville, Connecticut. Prescott, 27, easily destroyed Amir Khan in a 1st round knockout three years ago in 2008. That fight made a name for Prescott and established him as a fighter to be careful with. Although Prescott has lost two fights since then against very good fighters in Kevin Mitchell and Miguel Vazquez, he still remains a dangerous fighter for anyone that is foolish enough to stand in front of him.

Tonight, he’s facing Jargal, a 29-year-old fighter who has faced much less impressive opposition during his career compared to Prescott. Jargal was beaten in his last fight in an eight round split decision loss to Steve Upsher Chambers last November. Jargal also has several draws on his resume to James Hope, Richard Hall and Jaime Rodriguez. In looking at some of Jargal’s fights, he shows good head movement and does a good job of leaning away from incoming shots. However, he seems easy to hit with left hooks, as he was nailed over and over again in his fight with Hope in July. That’s bad news for Jargal because Prescott’s best punch is his left hook and with Jargal easy to hit with that punch, this fight likely won’t go long if Prescott is able to hit him all night long. At the very least, we may see some knockdowns in this fight because Jargal looked unsteady on his feet with Hope tagging him with left hooks.

Prescott was able to hurt Khan with a left hook after stunning him with a jab first. Prescott would then knock Khan down twice before the mismatch was halted in the 1st round with Khan down on the canvas badly hurt. Since that fight, Khan has shown no interest in trying to avenge the defeat. Some boxing fans feel that Prescott has Khan’s number and would beat him no matter how many times they were to fight.
