Haye v Wladimir: Fight is made, Venue agreed and Date is set – Question is – will it happen for real this time?

By Gari Jones: After weeks of negotiations David Haye W25 (23) L1 D0 and Wladimir Klitschko W55 (49) L3 D0 will fight on July 2nd , at the 57,000-capacity Imtech Arena in Hamburg Germany for the WBA, WBO and IBF World Heavyweight Title’s. It’s been a long time coming as this fight was originally made in June 2009, but Haye had to pull out due to injury.

Although the fight has been made I do worry whether or not the fighters make it to the ring, the date has been set and venue agreed but given Wladimir’s problems with an ongoing abdominal injury and Haye who may decide to pull out again I’m a little sceptical if this fight may actually happen.

Twice in December 2010 and April 2011 Wladimir had to call off a title fight with Derek Chisora due to an abdominal injury. But in various articles on the web, Wladimir has said he’s fully recovered and healed from his injury and can’t wait to start training for the bout (I hope so).

Wladimir on the other hand is concerned that David Haye might pull another fast one and decide to pull out for a second time from a fight with him. David Haye said he suffered a back injury and couldn’t compete, I don’t know if it’s the real reason Haye pulled out against either Vitali or Wladimir all I can do is take him by his word. All we as fans can do, is hope none of these things that stopped this fight happening 2 years ago will surface again.

However I do have more reason to believe that this time round the fight is going to happen.

1. Wladimir has home advantage here, and a chance to embarrass Haye by knocking him out right in front of his fans, is in my opinion to tempting an offer for Wladimir to turn down.
2. Given the lack of respect Haye has shown Wladimir and Vitali who have ruled this division for so many years, Wladimir must be dying inside to get at Haye.
3. I think David will not want to be seen as a ducker or coward again, and will want to show people he can back up what he says.
4. Haye has a chance to make himself the WBA, WBO and IBF champion of the heavyweight division, a win here would set him up nicely for Vitali’S WBC version.

As for the venue I’m a little surprised that Haye has agreed to go to Germany; he knows too well that Vitali will have a massive crowd following behind him. However I think David has realized that financially; Germany offers the much better pay packet (although America and UK supposedly made good offers to both boxers). I think it boils down to this, most of the revenue is coming from Sky Box Office where Haye is huge in England and the German TV Station RTL where Wladimir is a huge fan favourite and a bigger crowd gatherer than Haye is in England.

One more reason to expect this fight to happen is the things both fighters are saying to each other.

Should this fight be stopped from happening again due to injury, nothing short of them both given birth or dying from a disease would satisfy the fans who have put up with this saga for long enough

My fight Predictions: Haye gets off early and wins KO ROUND 6 or Wladimir wears Haye down and Wins late on KO Round 10-11
