Haye doesn’t care if he has to fight Vitali on short notice

By William Mackay: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) doesn’t care whether WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO’s) is substituted for IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) in their summer bout. Haye feels that it would hard on Vitali, as well. He thinks he wouldn’t have a lot of time to get ready for their bout.

Haye said this to Sky Sports: “I wouldn’t really care about the notice, to be honest. I’d be in shape, training for a fight against Wladimir and if, for whatever reason, he pulls out then Vitali would only have a short period of notice as well.”

The only way that Haye would be fighting Vitali is if Wladimir suffers another injury or if his injured abdominal continues to give him problems. This would then lead to Vitali stepping in and fighting Haye. However, I don’t see Vitali being at a big disadvantage because of a lack of preparation time for the fight with Haye because Vitali is a smart fighter and probably already knows how to beat Haye. It’s really not that hard to figure out Haye’s style. All he really does is move a round a lot looking for openings and then every once in a while he throws a pot shot or two.

If Haye fails to stun his opponent, he moves around some more and basically repeats the process. He doesn’t throw enough punches to win fights by decision and basically lives and dies by his ability to knockout his opponents. He barely beat Nikolay Valuev by a decision, which tells you that Haye doesn’t have great boxing skills. His only chance of beating Vitali would be by knockout him out and that’s not going to happen. Haye would lose every round of the fight, and the same goes for Wladimir. Haye can’t win rounds because he doesn’t have the boxing skills to win them. He only can score knockouts or hurt his opponents. Barring that, then he will lose every round against Vitali.
