Ward wants Froch bout, thinks he’ll get by Johnson on May 21st

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (23-0, 13 KO’s) expects WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) to get by Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s) on May 21st. Ward then is hoping to fight Froch in Las Vegas in the finals of the Super Six tournament. Ward has a semifinals Super Six fight coming up against Arthur Abraham (32-2, 26 KO’s) on May 14th at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California.

Ward believes that Froch will struggle against the 42-year-old Johnson. Ward prefers to fight Froch in the finals rather than Johnson. It’s not surprising to see why, because Froch has made comments about Ward in the past and Ward wants to make Froch eat those comments by schooling him in front of the entire boxing world. I don’t know that Froch will get by Johnson because Froch hasn’t looked good in two of his Super Six tournament fights and the way he’s been looking, I can see Johnson beating up Froch on May 21st. Like Ward, I’m hoping Froch beats Johnson because Ward-Froch will be a good fight, at least in terms of looking at the contrasting styles.

Ward is a skilled craftsman with talent similar to a prime Bernard Hopkins. Froch is someone that is really hard to describe. He fights with his hands down like some of the faster starts like Roy Jones Jr., yet he lacks the hand speed and reflexes to make his opponents miss with their shots. Froch tends to block shots with his strong chin, but he can be hurt, as we saw in his fight with Andre Dirrell.
