Image: Solis' promoter says if Odlanier can't beat Vitali, he will retire from the heavyweight businessBy William Mackay: It looks like Ahmet Oener, the promoter for Odlanier Solis (17-0, 12 KO’s), is on the verge of retiring from the heavyweight promoting business with Solis taking on WBC heavyweight champion Vitali KLitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s) on Saturday night in Cologne, Germany. Solis, who looks as fat as he usually does despite training hard in the Sierra Nevada mountains for his training camp to prepare for Vitali.

Solis is still sporting a lot of flab on his midsection and around his face and appears to be still weighing in the 250s. Solis’ promoter had this to say in an interview at Sky Sports Ringside: “If this guy [Solis] will not beat Vitali Klitschko, I will retire from heavyweight business. Seriously, because I believe this guy is the best heavyweight I ever had.”

Gosh, I hope Oener has some good fighters in other weight classes to make up for what he’ll be losing by pulling out of the heavyweight promoting because Solis doesn’t have much of a chance in this fight. I re-watched Solis’ recent wins over Carl Davis Drumond and Ray Austin, and I have to say that Solis looked very, very mediocre in both fights. He showed nothing in those fights that would suggest that he could beat Vitali or his brother Wladimir Klitschko.

Solis is too short, flabby and weak to beat Vitali. Oener should have made that promise if he could have gotten a fight against WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. At least Solis would have a good chance of beating Haye because he already beat him before. But Haye is never going to fight Solis, so it’s pretty pointless to even think about this fight. Haye will be retiring after gets beaten up by Wladimir and then perhaps beaten a second time by Vitali. Haye will be out of the sport by October. Solis isn’t in the cards, especially after he loses to Vitali.
