Warren thinks Khan will beat Bradley – Boxing News

By Dan Ambrose: Few boxing fans and writers are high on WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (27-0, 11 KO’s) after his disappointing performance against WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander last weekend in Pontiac, Michigan. You can add British promoter Frank Warren to that growing list. Warren thinks WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) would beat Bradley when/if they fight.

In his column at thesun.co.uk, Warren said this about the potential Khan-Bradley match-up: “I fancy him [Khan] to beat Bradley. I wrote to Khan and his team a year ago encouraging them to take the fight because I thought he would be too quick for the American. Nothing has changed to alter my onionskin. The only thing that worries me is the way Khan ground to a halt in the last three rounds against [Marcos] Maidana.”

Khan was almost stopped in the Maidana bout after getting hit with a hard right hand from Maidana in the 10th. Although Khan was able to literally hang on and hold onto one of Maidana’s arms much of the time in the last three rounds, he looked tired and took awful punishment. Khan’s constant movement in the fight seemed to take a lot out of him, making him vulnerable to Maidana when he finally did catch up to him. Khan has got to use less movement and try and make small changes in angles to keep fresh and avoid shots. He can’t make a career out of running constant circles around the ring in order to survive. Bradley doesn’t have the same kind of power that Maidana does, but he’s the same kind of pressure fighter that he is and he’s a lot more accurate with his shots.

Bradley is also faster with his hands. He’s going to be hitting Khan much more often than Maidana. Khan is going to have to stand his ground and sit down on his punches if he wants to beat Bradley, because he doesn’t have the power that Maidana has, and he can’t bludgeon Bradley. I would pick Maidana over Bradley by a much bigger margin than Khan, because Bradley is made to order for Maidana. With Khan, he has to fight him or else he may run out of gas.
