Mosley needs to go after Pacquiao’s body to finish what Margarito started

By Dave Lahr: Antonio Margarito had Manny Pacquiao where he wanted him in their fight last November, hurting him with a hard body shot in the 6th and punishing him periodically with body shots for the remainder of the fight. According to news from the Dailymail, Pacquiao spent 36 hours in bed after the Margarito bout in pain from the body shots. This shows you that Margarito was having success going to the body of Pacquiao. It must have been painful for Pacquiao.

The mistake Margarito made was that he wasted too much time trying to land useless head shots. That was where Margarito gave the fight away. Everyone knows that to beat Pacquiao, you stay away from throwing to his head because it just doesn’t have affect on him when he gets tagged in the head. You got to go to his weak midsection again and again and again all night long until you have him rolling around on the canvas in pain.

Mosley is a good body puncher in his own right. He doesn’t focus on throwing to the body as much as Margarito, but I think he’s just as good at throwing body shots, if not better, than Margarito. This is where Mosley needs to put his entire focus on May 7th to get the win. Mosley has to take Pacquiao’s guts and rip them apart with shots all night long.

However, Mosley is going to have to be prepared to chase Pacquiao down because Freddie Roach, the trainer for Pacquiao, is going to have him on his bike once he sees that Pacquiao is taking punishment to the body. Mosley has to cut off the ring and get in close repeatedly so that he can keep the fight on the inside. He can’t let Pacquiao jump from side to side or use circular ring movement to keep out of the way of his body shots.
