By Jason Kim: Unbeaten heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) is a longshot to beat IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KOs) when they face each other on April 30th in Mannheim, Germany. Few boxing fans and experts are going Chisora much of a chance to pull off the upset over the 6’6” Klitschko.

Chisora does have a fair chance if he can get under Wladimir’s long jab, get inside and land some hard shots on Klitschko’s weak chin. It’s been done before and it’s likely going to happen again. Chisora punches hard, and with his low attacks, and inside fighting ability, he may have what it takes to take Wladimir out with some big power shots.

The trick for Chisora is to stay out of the way of Wladimir’s right hand and left hooks. It’s not going to be easy to avoid these shots, because Wladimir is going to land sooner or later with one of them. The thing that Chisora needs to do is limit the amount of times that Wladimir can drop his huge bombs by staying close to him and not giving him enough room to put leverage on his punches.

Wladimir’s power is greatly reduced when he’s in close. Although he can sometimes throw with a lot of power like when he took out heavyweight Ray Austin with a series of short left hooks thrown at rapid speed, it’s normal for Wladimir to be able to get a lot of power on his punches when he’s in close.

He normally has to be at a long rage for him to be able to throw with maximum strength. Chisora needs to get inside and stay there. Wladimir will likely make it easy for Chisora by trying to clinch a lot. But Chisora needs to keep his hands busy at all times so that he an land something big on Wladimir before he’s able to get his offense cranked up to high gear.
