Image: Froch vs. Johnson: Is this it for Carl in the Super Six?By Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) is facing another potential loss as he goes into his semifinal Super Six tournament bout against the talented Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 Ko’s) on May 21st at a still unknown venue. Froch is lucky to have not been beaten in two of his three Super Six tourney fights against Andre Dirrell and Mikkel Kessler.

I have no argument about Froch having won his last bout against the over-trained Arthur Abraham last November. Froch had the perfect opponent to fight in that bout. Abraham came into the bout still licking his wounds from his fight against Dirrell in April 2010. Froch studied the blueprint that Dirrell designed and used the blue print to perfection to beat Abraham, albeit not as skillfully as Dirrell. But Froch should have lost his fight against Dirrell in my view.

It just goes to show you how hard it can be to beat a guy when you’re fighting in his home city. Dirrell probably would have had to knock Froch out to get a win in that fight, because I had the fight almost shutout for Dirrell, and yet the European judges gave it to Froch. But Froch’s got some real trouble ahead of him in his fight against the 42-year-old Johnson. Forget about Johnson’s advanced age, he fights a lot younger than his age and is more than capable of beating Froch and sending him back to England a beaten man, looking to have to rebuild his career.

Johnson doesn’t just beat his opponents, he knocks them out in brutal fashion. Froch doesn’t have the foot or defensive speed to keep from getting tagged by Johnson, so I see this one ending badly for Froch. They’re going to drum him out and it’s going to be such a pity to see Froch go after all this time.
