Image: Alvarez vs. Hatton: Don't blink your eyes because you might miss the fightBy Scott Gilfoid: If you want to see a really big mismatch tune in for the March 5th fight between undefeated Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) as he battles one of Britain’s finest in Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KO’s) for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. This is going to be a slaughter of the first order and don’t plan on seeing Hatton with his hand raised at the end of this one.

For that matter, don’t plan on seeing Hatton upright at all when this bout ends early in the first two or three rounds. That’s about as long as I can see this one going. Hatton is really over his head in this fight, and I’m not all that high on Alvarez. I think he pretty much stinks as a fighter, but as bad as Alvarez is, he’s worlds better than Hatton. I hope no one plans on stepping away from their television to go grab a beer from the refrigerator because by the time they get back, Alvarez will likely have planted Hatton for the 10 count.

This is going to be one of those ugly knockouts where they might need oxygen and a stretcher to hustle Hatton out of the ring. If I’m Hatton’s trainer, I’m going to have a white towel in my hand the moment the fight starts and I’m going sail it into the ring at the first hint of danger. The thing about Alvarez is that he hits so hard that by time he has his opponents hurt, they’re already falling face first down on the canvas. That’s the fate I see with Hatton. He’s going to get hit and won’t even be able to stagger because he’ll fall flat or flat on his back and the fight will be immediately stopped. Can you say mismatch?
