Will Khan face a feather-fisted puncher in April?

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) has the perfect opportunity to prove to the boxing community that he has as excellent chin and can take a power punch without falling down or having to resort to running around the ring like a chicken with his head cut off in his next fight in April. All Khan has to do is pick someone like Breidis Prescott, Marcos Maidana or Lucas Matthysse and agree to fight one of them and he’ll get a massive amount of respect from boxing fans.

Can you imagine the respect Khan would get if he finally agreed to take on Prescott after avoiding him for the past three years. It would really help Khan, I believe, and it would also bring him a lot of money through pay-per-view in the UK because boxing fans over there want to see Khan face and beat Prescott instead of another weak puncher. However, we’re likely going to see Khan face a fighter that’s virtually no threat to his weak chin and it won’t be nearly as interesting.

Khan was trying to get a fight against the weak punching Paul McCloskey until recently, when McCloskey rejected an offer that he felt was too small for him. Now Chavez Jr. has to look for another option. John Murray, the EBU lightweight champion, and the light-hitting Lamont Peterson have been mentioned as possible opponents for Khan. Those are terrible choices because Murray is a slow lightweight without any defenses, whereas Peterson is a slow light welterweight, without any power.
