Mora vs. Vera: Sergio to prove that his impressive fight agaisnt Mosley wasn’t a fluke

By Dan Ambrose: It’s safe to say that former WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Mora (22-1-2, 6 KO’s) did more than enough to deserve to win in his last fight against Shane Mosley in September 2010. Unfortunately for Mora, he had to settle for a controversial 12 round draw with the 39-year-old Mosley.

However, Mora realizes he was the better man in that fight and is ready to put the bitter draw behind him next month when he faces the hard hitting Bryan Vera (17-5, 11 KO’s) in a 10 round bout that will be shown on ESPN at the Convention Center, in Fort Worth, Texas. Mora, 30, has twice been the victim of draws in fights that he should have won, the first being in his fight with Elvin Ayala in October 2007. Mora didn’t let it get him down and turned around and defeated WBC junior middleweight champion Vernon Forrest two fights later to capture his title.

Mora lost the title in his next fight when he didn’t come into the bout in the best possible shape. Mora will be ready for his bout against Vera, you can believe that. Mora realizes that Vera has good power and he won’t be taking him lightly. Mora is going to go out and box circles around Vera and pick up and easy win so that he can move on and get another title shot. Mora wasted time trying to get a fight with WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik that never materialized due to Pavlik’s hand problem. Vera is the perfect opponent for Mora because he’s slow, awkward and easy to outbox.
