By Allen Hmiel: It was great news hearing former middleweight title holder Kelly Pavlik is out of the Betty Ford rehab facility after a two month stint for alcohol issues. But in order for Kelly to ever resume his once promising career in boxing and regain any type of world class career and championship dreams, he must first do two things. First, Kelly should actively interview potential trainers outside of Youngstown to replace current trainer Jack Loew.
World class fighters like Kelly need top notch trainers with the ability to teach, condition, prepare and train their fighters with professional skills at a level that Pavlik’s current trainer Loew simply does not have the ability or knowledge to keep a fighter at the top of his game in my view. Kelly needs to get out of his hometown and away from the Sports Pub/Bar and away from his current trainer and get a new start with a quality top notch trainer-Roach-Atlas-Steward-Richardson-McGirt-Muhammed to help Pavlik maximize his potential and regain his status as a top ranked middleweight or Super Middleweight Championship contender.
Pavlik can fight and contend for titles again at Middleweight-Super Middleweight and Light heavyweight but he needs to get a fresh start and it begins by leaving home and pursue his dreams outside of Ohio. A talented fighter like Pavlik needs a top rated trainer and management team surrounding him giving him the opportunity to maximize his potential and develop the necessary mindset that a contending champion requires. Hopefully Kelly has put his demons behind him and can refocus all his energies on the sport that has made him a celebrity and a champion. Saying goodbye to the bar and giving trainer Loew a grateful pat on the back and starting out fresh with a new beginning is all Kelly needs to regain his world class status as one of the best fighters in the world. Boxing needs fighters like Pavlik that will bring excitement and fans to his future fights. Championship belts are there for the taking and all Kelly has to do is make these few changes to once again regain his dreams and be called Champion.
