What happens if Wladimir nails Haye with one of his left hooks?

By Sean McDaniel: IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) has one of the best left hooks in the heavyweight division. When he decides to throw it, Wladimir can be deadly with it as long it lands on the button.

In some of Wladimir’s past fights since his 2nd round blowout loss to Corrie Sanders in 2003, Wladimir hasn’t always thrown his left hook all that much. Instead, he holds off on throwing the hook and uses mostly jabs and right hands to do most of his damage.

However, Wladimir has the perfect opponent in WBA heavyweight champion David Haye to throw his left hook at. Haye likes to lunge in and crowd because of his short arms and his inability to get a lot of extension on his shots.

Haye often is leaning forward when he’s lunging forward to throw one of his wild haymaker shots. This is the perfect type of fighter for Wladimir to hit with a left hook. Haye doesn’t have a very good chin and doesn’t seem to react well when hit. Haye was dropped by the light hitting Monte Barrett in their fight in 2008, and Haye was taken out by 40-year-old Carl Thompson in 2004.

Haye may not have been badly hurt while fighting at cruiserweight, but that division is pretty poor and I’ve never been at all impressed with the kinds of fighters that Haye took on during his time down there. Wladimir doesn’t need a lot of room to wind up on his left hooks to be deadly.

In his fight with Ray Austin, Wladimir was able to take him out with left hooks that travelled little more than 12 inches. That makes it easy for him to throw it while avoiding getting hit with counter shots because he doesn’t wind up with it, as he throws it with all arm. I don’t think Haye will be able to take those kinds of shots for long without going down permanently.
