Shaw thinks Bradley has a good chance of fighting Mayweather if he beats Alexander

By Dave Lahr: WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KO’s) may not have much chance of getting a fight against Manny Pacquiao if Bradley destroys WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KO’s) on Saturday night in Pontiac, Michigan. But Bradley’s promoter, Gary Shaw, likes his chances of getting an euqually well paying fight against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. instead. That would be even better, because a Mayweather-Bradley fight would be huge because of the skills of these two fighters and all the fans that Mayweather would be able to attract on pay-per-view.

In an article in the Grand Rapids Press, Shaw said “I believe Mayweather’s going to come back and I believe, if we win, we’ge got a good shot at fighting Mayweather.”

Mayweather is dealing with some legal issues right now, so Bradley would have to wait awhile before he can get a chance to fight Mayweather unless Mayweather’s legal problems disappear rapidly in the near future. Those problems could linger for the remainder of the year, at which case Mayweather will need to decide whether he wants to take a good paying fight with Bradley so that he can add to his money chest for his legal woes. Bradley would be the ideal opponent because after he beats Alexander, he’s going to be the uncrowned king of the light welterweight division. To be sure, there’s still a fight against WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan and a bout against the winner of the fight between Zab Judah and Kaizer Mabuza for the vacant IBF light welterweight title that still needs to be resolved, but for the most part, Bradley will be seen as the guy to beat at light welterweight. I don’t know how Mayweather will be able to resist this fight.
