By Jim Dower: Former WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Mora (22-1-2, 6 Ko’s) is looking to put on a good performance in his next fight against the hard hitting Bryan Vera (17-5, 11 KO’s) on February 4th at the Convention Center, in Forth Worth, Texas. Mora, who has missed a lot of time away from the boxing ring due to injuries and wasted time trying to get a fight with WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, arguably should have won his last fight against 39-year-old Shane Mosley in September 2010.

Mora fought his heart out against Mosley, and seemed to get the better of him but had to settle for a 12 round draw. That kind of thing is expected in facing a star like Mosley, even though he no longer holds a title and hasn’t been a champion for many years. To beat a fighter like Mosley, it’s like facing a champion, you have to do something really spectacular to get the win.

Mora is looking to look especially impressive in his fight with Vera next month, because he knows he needs to look good in order to get his name on the boxing map again so that he can land a shot against one of the champions. Mora, 30, will have the benefit that his figh with Vera will be shown on ESPN, so it’s going to be seen by a lot of Americans. This why it’s really important that Mora mixes it up more in this fight and uses less movement. Mora has good enough skills to beat fighters when standing in front of them. He doesn’t need to move constantly in order to beat most of these guys.

In an interview at ringtv, Mora said “I’m going to get hit more in this fight than in previous fights of mine, but I’m also going to make it a more exciting fight. I’m going to settle down and just do more punching than fans are used to seeing from me.”
