Image: Mosley doesn't plan on retiring after taking his likely beating from Pacquiao, will keep fightingBy Chris Williams: Many boxing fans saw the Shane Mosley vs. Manny Pacquiao bout as Mosley’s golden parachute fight, a bout for him to cash out with a huge payday in the process of taking a beating and then retiring afterwards. You certainly couldn’t blame the 39-year-old Mosley if he were to retire after the Pacquiao fight, because Mosley has looked dreadful in his last two fights, almost the picture of a shot fighter.

Mosley will be getting a huge payday for the Pacquiao bout, and will likely make as much as $7 million, possibly more. This money could ease Mosley’s retirement and give him a soft landing after he gets out of the sport. However, Mosley is now saying he doesn’t plan on retiring after the Pacquiao bout, and says he’s going to keep fighting for some reason.

In an article at abs-cbn news, Mosley said “This will not be my last fight. I want to prove to people I still have it. It’s going to be a war because styles make fights. Manny has speed and power. I have speed and power. It’s going to be a real test of the mind. With the way we both fight, it will surely end in a knockout.”

This is so sad. Mosley doesn’t realize yet how shot he is. It’s always like this, isn’t it? Fighters just don’t seem to get a clue about themselves having lost their skills until it hits them over the head by a particular nasty beating. I see this fight as being a huge hint to Mosley that he needs to hang up his gloves.

If the one-sided loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the gift 12 round draw with non-champion Sergio Mora wasn’t enough of a hint, then a terrible beating from Pacquiao should do the trick. I’d hate to see Mosley sticking around after he takes this beating and just serving as fodder for the younger fighters to beat up on and kick around the ring. It’s like having an old lion without his teeth and claws entering a ring with young lions. Mosley will get torn apart if he fights on beyond this bout. I think the beating that Pacquiao is going to give him is going to cause Mosley to deteriorate even worse. He really should have held off with the retirement talk until after the Pacquiao fight. That would have been the time to talk about whether he wanted to continue.
