Image: Kell Brook still interested in Khan bout, says it will take only one good shot to winBy William Mackay: Despite WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) saying that he and unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (23-0, 16 KO’s) had agreed not to fight until later on in their careers, Brook is still very much interested in taking on and knocking out Khan. A couple of days ago Khan said that he had spoke to Brook over the phone and that he supposedly was in agreement that they shouldn’t fight now. But it sure doesn’t sound like Brook ever had that conversation, as this is what Brook had to say about Khan today in a press release:

“Maidana showed that Khan’s chin hasn’t improved much since he went to Freddie Roach [Khan’s trainer]. He can take a shot better, but he still gets clipped and hurt. I feel that I’ve got the power to take him out. One clean shot on his chin is all I need to land.”

Does that sound like someone that’s not interested in fighting Khan? I think I smell fear. I don’t know why Khan doesn’t want to fight Brook but I don’t believe it’s because the fight needs more building up before it should take place. That sounds like another excuse if I ever heard one. Brook is very well known in the UK, and a fight between him and Khan is only logical right now because that’s where Khan will be fighting in April. This is supposed to be a fight for Khan’s UK fans, not for the world wide public.

Khan needs to take on a fighter that’s recognizable and well known among British fans. Brook would be the perfect opponent for Khan to fight, unless he’s afraid and shivering in his own boots about the thought of facing Brook. I guess I wouldn’t blame him. Brook is a slick fighter, a knockout artist, and a fighter with foot and hand speed that would make things tough on Khan. Brook has the foot speed to quickly cut off the ring on Khan and force him to fight. Khan was able to run from the slower Maidana until the Argentinian fighter finally caught up to Khan and badly staggered him in the 10th. Brook has the speed to hurt Khan much earlier in the fight and take him out.
