On January 11, 2010, names of athletes who shined last year will be announced by the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards. Nominees will undergo evaluations by respectful judges from the Laureus World Sports Academy composed of 46 sportsmen and sportswomen being looked upon in the world of sports.

Awards such as World Sportsman/Sportswoman of the Year, World Team of the Year, World Breakthrough of the Year, World Comeback of the Year, World Sportsperson of the Year (Disability), World Action Sportsperson of the Year are up for grab.

Manny Pacquiao lead the list of this year’s nominees and his 8th title in boxing is being considered after his unanimous decision win over Antonio Margarito. Before that, Manny successfully defended his WBO welterweight title against Ghanian Joshua Clottey at Cowboy’s Stadium in Texas earlier last year.

Winners for Laureus World Sports Awards will be announced in a ceremony at Abu Dhabi on February 5 to 7, 2011. Some notable awardees last year were trackster Usain Bolt, tennis players Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters, Formula One driver Jenson Button, swimmer Natalie du Toit and surfing world champion Stephanie Gilmore.

Prior to his nomination, Manny Pacquiao was also chosen as WBC’s Fighter of the Decade by virtue of his string of wins for the last decade.

With different awards received by Manny Pacquiao, I am just wondering why is Floyd, or Juan Manuel Marquez, were not even mentioned among those being nominated, and yet, their delusional fans keep on saying that they are better than Manny.
