Image: Maidana wants to fight Mayweather or Pacquiao next - Boxing NewsBy Dan Ambrose: The hard hitting light welterweight Marcos Maidana (29-2, 27 KO’s) says that he’d be interested in facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao in his next fight, according to fightnews.com. Maidana is coming off a 12 round decision loss to Amir Khan in his last fight in December. It was one of those fights where Maidana gained a lot even in losing, because he was taking the fight to Khan in the last three rounds and had Khan on the verge of a knockout.

HBO is talking about matching Maidana against the loser of Saturday’s fight between Devon Alexander and Timothy Bradley in a way for one of those fighters to be further weeded out. However, that’s not exactly big gift being put in with the loser of the Bradley-Alexander fight. The way that Maidana fought against Khan, Maidana wants bigger things and not just being put with Bradley or Alexander after they get pounded on.

Mayweather is number #1 on Maidana’s list of fighters he wants to face next. Maidana says he’s more interested in fighting “loudmouth and arrogant boxers like Floyd Mayweather?” Maidana also has no problems moving up in weight to face Mayweather at welterweight if that’s his wish.”

The chances of Maidana getting a fight against either Pacquiao or Mayweather are pretty much zero, though. If and when Mayweather is finally available to fight later on this year after taking care of his legal woes, he’s not likely going to be interested in facing a hard puncher like Maidana in his first fight back from a long layoff. As for Pacquiao, that fight won’t happen because Bob Arum, the promoter for Pacquiao, mostly matches Pacquiao up against fighters from Top Rank. Maidana fights for Golden Boy Promotions, and that takes away any chance that Maidana would have of fighting Pacquiao.
