By Dave Lahr: When you look at the fact that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s) has been pretty much been fighting sub par opponents for the past decade and then add in the fact that he’s starting to get old, it tells you that he’s in trouble in his next fight against unbeaten Cuban Olympic Gold Medalist Odlanier Solis (17-0, 12 KO’s). This is a fight that Vitali would have struggled against 4000 yesterdays ago, but now that Vitali is nearing the ripe age of 40, and his hair littered with sprinkles of silver, it’s a bad timing for Vitali.
Solis is easily the most gifted of the current heavyweights with both power, speed and defensive skills that other fighters can only dream of having. This is like setting loose a mongoose with a old snake without it’s choppers. Vitali’s hand speed resembles an old rusty gate opening and closing at glacial speeds. Solis is going to do a real number on this old heavyweight and take him to school en route to stripping him of his most prized possession – his WBC paper title.
Solis is going to beat Vitali so bad, even his younger brother IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko will have second thoughts about trying to avenge Vitali’s loss. It’s best that Vitali take the loss and retire rather than let the agony go on by continuing to fight and get beaten again by Solis in a rematch. The sport is meant for younger fighters with ability and I feel that Solis is going to make Vitali look like a monkey on 3/19. It’s gong to be one of those sad Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Macho Camacho beatings. I just hope Solis doesn’t prolong things by dragging it out. I don’t Vitali to suffer long.
