Kevin Mitchell wants Katsidis rematch and/or John Murray bout

By Scott Gilfoid: Lightweight Kevin Mitchell 31-1, 23 KO’s) is hoping to get a rematch with Michael Katsidis (27-3, 22 KO’s) and or a fight against unbeaten lightweight contender John Murray (30-0, 18 KO’s) in 2011. Mitchell, 26, hasn’t done anything since he was blown out of the water by Katsidis in a 3rd round TKO on May 15th in 2010.

In short it was simply a massacre. Mitchell looked hopelessly out of his league against Katsidis, and it was like poor Mitchell had laced up the gloves for the first time. It was almost embarrassing to watch Mitchell cringing and cowering under the fast and furious attacks from Katsidis. The end came quickly with Katsidis hammering Mitchell with left hands while Mitchell turned with his back facing Katsidis. Why after all this time Mitchell wants to fight Katsidis is a mystery.

I think Mitchell is crazy to even consider getting back in the ring with Katsidis, because he’s just not sturdy enough to take the more powerful Katsidis. I even have serious doubts that Mitchell could beat Murray, who I see as a slow and limited fighter. But Murray can punch a little and I can see him putting Mitchell in the same position that Katsidis did with Mitchell turning his back once again while getting shots rained down on him.

In an article at the Main Event Radio Show, Mitchell said “John Murray would be a good domestic fight and could fill any stadium, but the one I really want is Katsidis.”

My suggestion would be for Mitchell to go back to fighting the lesser fighters that he’s built up his record on and after a year or two, then work his way back to fighting the likes of Breidis Prescott. I would stay away from Katsidis completely. I just don’t see Mitchell as being in his class. I don’t want to see a replay of Mitchell cringing and taking another schoolyard-type beating from Katsidis. That would be sad.
