Juan Manuel Marquez, not allowing promoter to low-ball him

By Francisco Hernandez: Juan Manuel Marquez has begun training for his possible fight with Eric Morales on April 9, 2011. Marquez has always had a healthy dislike for Marco Antonio Barrera and Eric Morales because both fighters in their hey-day snubbed Marquez, refusing to give him a big fight.

Instead Barrera and Morales hogged the limelight with their trilogy of fights, refusing Marquez to be the third man in the legendary rivalry. This was a shame because fans always wanted Marquez to be part of that rivalry. Marco Antonio Barrera, late in his career would finally fight Marquez. A fight with Eric Morales never materialized.

Now the shoe is on the other foot and it is Eric Morales who is begging to fight Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez no longer needs Morales. Today many good fighters want to fight Marquez, he has plenty of options, and Marquez doesn’t need Morales. Therefore if promoters want Marquez to fight Morales, they need to compensate Marquez well, otherwise Marquez will not take the fight, he simply doesn’t need it. The only thing Marquez can get out of a fight with Morales is the money. Eric Morales is a legend and beloved by many boxing fans but he is history, he is trying to do the impossible –turn back the clock. Against Marquez, Morales will get a terrible whacking.

Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Eric Morales can bring in a lot of money; many fans still want to watch this fight -despite Morales decrepitude. There is no reason therefore to low ball Juan Manuel Marquez, the promoter needs to pay him.
