The cut wasn’t a bad one that couldn’t have been stopped. What made it seem that Holyfield wanted the fight stopped was that he was tagged with a vicious right hand from Williams in the 3rd and looked to be out on his feet when the round ended. You can’t say Holyfield officially quit but he sure didn’t look eager to continue fighting into the 4th round and risk getting knocked out by Williams.

The thing is Williams is a 2nd tier heavyweight and he shouldn’t have been able to hurt and dominate Holyfield if Evander was a top fighter. But clearly he’s no longer the fighter he once was and he needs to see this fight as a big hint that it’s time for him to retire.

Holyfield has a fight scheduled with Brian Nielsen on March 5th, but it doesn’t look like that fight will take place unless Holyfield’s cut heals quickly.

After the fight, Holyfield had this to say according to fightnews.com, “I’m cut. He head-butted me. He came down on me with his head. I don’t know about my next fight. I’m cut, I’m cut. I’ll give Sherman a rematch.”
