Has David Haye forgotten about Vitali Klitschko?

Image: Has David Haye forgotten about Vitali Klitschko?By William Mackay: For some reason WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) has only been mentioning one half of the Klitschko brothers, saying he wants to fight IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) next in 2011. But for some reason, Haye has been ignoring the tougher Klitschko brother, WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s).

Why is that? Why does Haye prefer to fight Wladimir rather than Vitali? Haye’s fans say it’s a logical choice for Haye to make because by fighting Wladimir, Haye will get the chance to fight for two world titles instead of just one. I’d like to believe that excuse but it just doesn’t seem realistic.

I think Haye is judging that he has a better chance against Wladimir because he’s been stopped before several times by big punchers during his career. With Vitali, the only two times he’s been beaten has occurred when he was cut badly in a fight he was winning with Lennox Lewis and in another time when he tore up his shoulder in a fight he was well ahead of against Chris Byrd in 2000.

In other words, Vitali has the tougher chin and has never been actually stopped being hurt from a head shot like Wladimir has. It seems pretty obvious that Haye doesn’t fancy his chances against the bigger brothers. This is why I believe that his fight against Wladimir will be the one and only time that Haye will fight one of the Klitschko brothers.

I think Vitali is going to be off limits for Haye, because of his chin, his size and his brute nature. Vitali has a way of not just beating his opponents, but beating them up badly in the process. Haye probably doesn’t want that to happen to him. As such, Wladimir has been selected and Vitali has been ignored and will likely continue to be ignored regardless of the outcome of the Haye-Wladimir fight.
