Froch vs. Johnson: Does Carl move up in weight if/when Glen beats him on 5/21?

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) is happy that he was able to win back his World Boxing Council title with a win over Arthur Abraham after losing to Mikkel Kessler last year in April in the Super Six tournament. Froch, 33, now has a crucial battle against former light heavyweight Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s) on May 21st. If Froch loses this fight, the writing is pretty much on the wall that he doesn’t have the talent to cut it at the highest level in the super middleweight division and will have to make a tough decision about what he wants to do with the rest of his career.

Froch can always be stubborn about his loss to Johnson and refuse to admit that he was clearly beaten in the case of his fights against Andre Dirrell or Kessler or Froch can come to terms with his loss and realize that he just doesn’t have the talent to dominate and hold down a title at the over-loaded super middleweight division.

Froch can then take a roll as a gate keeper fighter, and serve a purpose as an opponent for the young lions to sharpen their teeth and claws on. Or Froch can refuse to own his loss and keep trying to get fights against the top super middleweights and keep getting beaten over and over again each time he steps it up against better opposition. Ideally, Froch will understand that there’s no opportunities for him at super middleweight and will move up in weight to try his hand in the light heavyweight division, which isn’t exactly loaded with talent right about now.
