Image: Dzinziruk-Martinez: Sergio could be in for a big surprise on 3/12By Jim Dower: HBO wanted no part of seeing WBC middleweight emeritus champion beating up on #14 ranked fringe contender Andy Lee. Instead, they approved WBO junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-0, 23 KO’s) as Martinez’s next fight on March 12th at the Foxwoods Resort Casino, in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The fight will be for the WBC Diamond middleweight title but the winner of the fight won’t need one of the WBC’s phony belts in order to get the respect from boxing fans.

It’s going to be clear as day that the winner of the Dzinziruk vs. Martinez fight will be the best fighter in the middleweight division by a long shot. Martinez, 35, is currently considered to be the best in the division after beating Paul Williams by a 2nd round knockout in their last fight in November of last year. Martinez, who is more of a guy likes to throw a lot of punches rather than loading up and shooting for knockouts, decided to change his style for that fight and threw nothing but power shots in that fight.

Martinez discovered that he has excellent power and as his resulted proved. With that impressive showing, it’s likely that Martinez will go back to his power to see if he can take Dzinziruk out as early as possible on March 12th. Martinez may need to get Dzinziruk out fast because the longer he keeps him in the ring, the more damage that Dzinziruk will be able to do with his excellent jabs and left hook.

Dzinziruk is a pure boxer, but also has decent power when he wants to show it. However, most of the time Dzinziruk prefers to jab his opponents from the outside rather than taking chances by trying to score a knockout. In his last fight, he took out Daniel Dawson late in the fight with a 10th round knockout.
