Image: Booth thinks Solis will beat Vitali, says this is why he wants Mormeck for HayeBy Sean McDaniel: In a recent intevrview, Adam Booth, the manager/trainer for WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s), explains why he wants Haye to fight 38-year-old Jean Marc Mormeck (36-4, 22 KO’s) next instead of WBA heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s) . Booth feels that Vitali might lose to Solis in March, and because of that Booth wants Haye to go after the short, slow and old Mormeck, who has looked absolutely horrible since moving up to the heavyweight division in 2009.

In an interview at ffboxe.com, Booth said “Vitali is an old boxer and there is a strong probability that he loses his next fight against [Odlanier] Solis of Cuba provided that the latter is well prepared physically. As for his brother Wladimir, he does not want this fight against David [Haye].”

It looks like Booth is just giving an excuse to dodge Vitali and take the fight against the old and shot looking Mormeck. Haye already proved that he could beat Mormeck by stopping him four years ago in 2007. Mormeck has badly deteriorated since then and doesn’t look like he belongs in the heavyweight division. This would be another easy fight for Haye if he does end up facing Mormeck instead of one of his top challengers. Haye is supposed to be fighting his number #1 contender Ruslan Chagaev. However, Booth is saying that fight doesn’t look like it’s going to happen because of Chagaev’s supposedly had hepatitis B diagnosis. But even if that gets Haye out of having to face Chagaev, he should then be expected to face the number #2 challenger Denis Boytsov instead of skipping to the number #8 spot to face Mormeck. Haye already had optional title defense in his last fight against 39-year-old Audley Harrison. A fight with Mormeck would be like Haye taking two optional defenses of his title in a row. I don’t know how the World Boxing Association could agree to this.

As far as Solis beating Vitali, that’s not likely to happen. Solis is going to have problems with Vitali’s size and reach. This could be another blowout win for Vitali. However, it matters little, because it appears that Booth and Haye want no part of Vitali and will continue to avoid this fight until Haye retires later on this year if he’s telling the truth about wanting to retire at 31.
