Andre Ward is going to smoke Arthur Abraham

By Scott Gilfoid: There’s little question that the unbeaten WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (23-0, 13 KO’s) is going to be in the finals of the Super Six tournament. It’s almost academic at this point that Ward is going to be there facing someone, probably Glen Johnson. The only guy that really had any chance of beating the Ward was Andre Dirrell, but he had to depart from the tournament after sustaining an injury in his exciting fight with Arthur Abraham (31-2, 25 KO’s) last year in March.

Although injured in the fight, Dirrell still defeated Abraham and gave him the first loss of his career. Now it’s going to be Ward’s turn to spank that backside by dominating Abraham in their semifinal bout in April or May. Abraham, 30, is coming off a disappointing loss to Carl Froch. Abraham made the mistake of training too hard for that bout and it cost him when he came into the fight with nothing.

It was like watching a fighter that had worked too hard and had dieted too much try to fight. It was a total disaster. With Abraham weakened, Froch was able to take advantage of Abraham by beating up on the tired looking fighter and earning a 12 round decision.

Ward is going to be facing the best version of Abraham in their next fight. It won’t matter, though. Ward is going to end up beating Abraham much worse than Froch did because of Ward’s much better boxing skills and talent compared to Froch. I can see Abraham getting bulled to the ropes and literally raked with shots from midsection to head. Abraham doesn’t like it downstairs, so I expect Ward to really work him over with body shots. This is one of those fights that could end suddenly if Ward connects with a big enough body shot to send Abraham down on the canvas. The Armenian isn’t coming into the fight in the best possible mental shape given his two consecutive losses. It likely won’t take much for Ward to finish off Abraham and send him back to Germany in defeat.
