Alexander vs. Bradley: Will this be a Super Fight or a Super disappointment?

By Eric Thomas: The January 29th fight between WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-, 13 KO’s) and WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KO’s) is being called “The Super Fight” by the promoters of the bout. However, ticket sales for the fight have been staggeringly poor. Instead of the fight taking place at a venue in one of the fighters home town, they opted to place it in Pontiac, Michigan, which isn’t exactly a boxing town. That right there probably doomed the fight to a low turnout.

Perhaps the fight will bring in good ratings on HBO to make up for it. I doubt it. The fight is barely being talked about on internet sites, and when it is discussed, the reactions to the fight are less than eager. The winner of this fight will be considered one of two of the best fighters in the division with WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan being the other. The Bradley-Alexander winner will then take on Khan to prove who the best fighter is in the division.

It’s kind of nonsense, really, because there are still fighters out there like Victor Ortiz, Lucas Matthysse and Zab Judah who really should have a role in this as well to prove who the best fighter is in the division. However, if Khan beats the Bradley vs. Alexander winner, he says he’s not going to stick around and defend his unified titles. He wants to move up to welterweight and try to get a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Khan may wish he had stayed at light welterweight because he could have problems with the bigger fighters at welterweight.

Bradley sees there being a lot of action in the fight, saying this in an article at the Detroit Free Press: “I think it is going to be a very high paced fight. I throw a lot of punches and I know Devon throws a lot of punches. He throws 80-100 per round. We are both going to be battling for position and dominance in the ring.”
