Prescott says he’ll always have Khan’s number

Image: Prescott says he'll always have Khan's numberBy Scott Gilfoid: It’s been two years since knockout artist Breidis Prescott (23-2, 19 KO’s) made easy work of Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s), knocking him out in 1 vicious round in 2008. Khan, 24, hasn’t shown any interested in trying to avenge his one round blow out against Prescott, and instead has called the loss a fluke and says that he would easily beat Prescott in a rematch. However, Khan is merely talking and not about to get in the ring to prove it. Prescott beat Khan like a daddy beating his child. It wasn’t even a fight.

In his last fight, Khan “survived” a 12 round bout with Marcos Maidana, taking a vicious beating but getting the nod by the judges by the scores of 114-111, 114-111 and 113-112. The fight looked more like a draw to me, and that’s only because Maidana started late in chasing Khan down. Khan ran the entire fight and did a great deal of holding, which he was never penalized for. Maidana had Khan hurt in the last three rounds and Khan held one of Maidana’s arms much of the time while taking big punishment to the head and throwing next to nothing back that landed. Instead of being penalized for holding, Khan was separated from Maidana and that allowed Khan to escape a lot of the punishment that Maidana was inflicting.

In a presser yesterday, Prescott said “I have his number, that’s why he’s laughing and not signing. A true champion doesn’t talk about what he would have done. He get’s it done in the ring. When you lose like he did against me, people will always have their doubts about you. The only way to erase those doubts is to fight me again and try to remove them…You will never beat me.”

I agree with Prescott. Khan will never beat him. Of course, Khan will never fight him again, so it’s academic at this point. I think Prescott is too dangerous for Khan. We saw Khan staggered and badly hurt in his last fight. There’s no way he’s going to take on someone with as long of arms and as much power as Prescott. Unlike Maidana, Prescott is taller than Khan and has longer arms. Khan couldn’t win this fight by running and holding. He would be forced to fight Prescott, which would likely go very badly for him. I can’t see Khan lasting longer than two or three rounds at best.
