By Dallan o’ Donnell: Shane Mosley who is the apparent front runner to be Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent believes his body shots can hurt Pacquiao and get him an unlikely win against the current pound for pound champion. Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KO’s) was at ring side for Pacquiao’s last bout against Antonio Margarito and saw some openings that he could take advantage of if he was fighting Manny.

Mosley said that he has bigger body shots than Antonio Margarito, a man he destroyed himself. He went on to say his body shots could give Manny “A lot of problems” and that it would be a great fight. Shane did give Manny credit saying that he was a tremendous fighter with terrific hand speed and a constant warrior. It is however a poor match up in terms of an actual competitive fight but as per usual in terms of PPV numbers it is the obvious choice for Top Rank and Bob Arum.

Mosley is certainly past his best at 39 which can clearly be seen from his loss too Floyd Mayweather and then a draw against Sergio Mora last time out. Mosley, was a great boxer in his prime we cannot doubt that but at this stage in both his career and life does he really need a beating from Pacquaio? I cannot see this fight any other way.

At the moment Manny is too good and Shane cannot handle him. It is unfortunate for boxing fans to have to watch another one sided fight when there are better options out there. Juan Manuel Marquez for me is the obvious one. A third fight with Pacquaio simply has to be made. But is that commercially lucrative in Bob Arums eyes? Will it get the “casual boxing fan” to purchase the fight? I would hope so. Both previous fights were extremely entertaining with action in every round from both fighters.

Claims that Manny is “afraid” to fight him are ridiculous but that’s how people will view it if the fight isn’t made. Mosley however could be looking for that one last big pay day but he would then surely retire with another loss. I may be wrong and Mosley could stun the world. Stranger things have happened, but i highly doubt it. Let’s hope Pacquiao chooses Marquez so we can finally have a competitive fight to look forward to.
