Image: Hopkins doesn't care about going into a hostile territory for Pascal boutBy Jason Kim: This Saturday night, 45-year-old Bernard Hopkins will be fighting WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal in Quebec, Canada in front of what likely will be a crowd of thousands of Pascal supporters and very few Hopkins fans. Instead of seeing that as a potential problem that could get in the way of victory, Hopkins sees it as a plus.

He thinks the large pro-Pascal fight will work for him rather the opposite way around. Hopkins might be dreaming, however. Visiting fighters to Canada often come away unhappy after losing controversial decisions. This could be Hopkins’ fate on Saturday night, although there’s an excellent chance that Hopkins may end up getting beaten beyond question beyond question. After all, Pascal is at the top of his game and Hopkins is not. All you have to do is take one look at Hopkins’ last two fights against Roy Jones Jr and Enrique Ornelas to see that he might have problems against Pascal.

Hopkins says “What do I have to lose? He [Pascal] has 16,000 fans coming to see him. That many people make a lot of noise and I am going to use that to my advantage. The crowd is my inspiration. I think I am going to gain some Canadian fans when they see what I do against Pascal. I am 100 percent ready and it is going to be an amazing fight.”

Hopkins may be dreaming because Pascal’s fans won’t turn their backs on him, as he’s fully supported by them. If anything, Hopkins can expect to be loudly booed all night long.
