By Dan Ambrose: Welterweight contender Jesus Soto-Karass (24-5-3, 16 KO’s) will be facing unbeaten Mike Jones (23-0, 18 KO’s) on February 19th in 2011, according to news from Dan Rafael of ESPN.

The two fighters fought on November 13th with Jones winning a controversial 10 round majority decision on the undercard of the Antonio Margarito vs. Manny Pacquiao bout at the Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas.

However, the decision wasn’t a popular one, because Jones punched himself out in the 2nd round and never seemed to get his second wind. Soto-Karass essentially dominated the remainder of the fight as he pressured Jones constantly and landed effectively with body and head shots.

Jones was back peddling from the 3rd round until the end of the fight and rarely mixed it up. He looked tired, passive and not interested in exchanging punches. It was a terrible decision in my view, because Jones fought like a weightlifter who had just stepped out of a hard weight lifting workout and wasn’t able to fight hard for more than two rounds in the fight.

If this was an amateur bout, Jones would have won easily. Unfortunately, it was a professional fight and Jones got dominated by Soto-Karass for the last eight rounds of the fight.

According to Rafael, Top Rank and HBO has agreed on the money for the fight, and it will be taking place in Las Vegas on the undercard of the Nonito Donaire vs. Fernando Montiel bantamweight bout.

The Soto-Karass vs. Jones fight turned out to be a much better fight compared to the Pacquiao vs. Margarito fight, and it’s too bad that it wasn’t the main event because the Pacquiao-Margarito fight turned out to be a disappointment.
