Maidana prepared to chase Khan and trap him

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) is ready for any tricks that World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) might have for their December 11th fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Although Khan, his trainer and his loyal fans are saying that Khan will be attacking Maidana and trying to engage with him, many people remain skeptical about Khan using that tactic. It doesn’t sound like something Khan will even consider doing given his history of having problems against fighters with any kind of power. Khan was knocked out the only time he was put in with a good puncher. It’s likely the last thing he’ll do is to try his fate and consider punching with Maidana.

In a teleconference call today, Maidana said “This fight is very important. I’m hungry to get the title. I’m ready for anything. If he wants to stay with me that’s my fight. If he wants to move around, I’ve learned how to cut the ring and beat him at the ropes and force my fight.”

This is exactly what Maidana had to do in his win over Victor Cayo. Khan almost surely opt to run from Maidana to keep upright and prevent getting knocked out once again. It will be up to Maidana to cut off the ring, and force Khan to engage whether he likes it or not. Khan won’t know what to do if Maidana forces him to fight, because he’s going into this fight thinking he’s got all the answers in terms of ability. If Maidana is able to cut off the ring again and again, Khan won’t last long and will end up being counted out within a short period of time. Khan’s chin is too weak and Maidana punches too hard for Khan to stay up for long against Maidana.
