Image: Brandon Rios did it; can Victor Ortiz win against a Peterson?By Francisco Hernandez: Trash talking Brandon Rios has been heard lately talking about how he wants to get in the ring with Victor Ortiz to beat the hell out of him. Brandon has made no secret of the hatred he harbors against Victor. Supposedly Robert Garcia brought both boys from Kansas to his gym at Oxnard California. Yet it was Victor Ortiz who got all the attention from the media and promoters, while Brandon Rios was relegated to the status of a shadow. This seems to be the reason for Brandon’s deep hatred and resentment of Victor Ortiz. Brandon suffers from envy; he desires Victor’s status, skills, and star status. Victor Ortiz has been after all the luckier of both; he is smarter, more attractive to the ladies, and considered in skill level way above Brandon Rios by most boxing critics. Brandon Rios is consumed by envy and by the desire to harm and punish Victor Ortiz.

The green with envy Brandon Rios finally has a chance to outshine Victor Ortiz this December 11. That is because Brandon Rios has already fought and defeated one of the Petersons, Anthony, although the fight was stopped by disqualification of Anthony Peterson, this was a desperate tactic by Peterson to keep from getting knocked out by the relentless Rios. This performance catapulted Rios to the attention of boxing fans. Now this Saturday Victor Ortiz is going to fight the other Peterson, Lamont. If Victor Ortiz loses to Lamont, Rios will have his moment of satisfaction, a moment of peace from his disease of envy. Rios will have the satisfaction of saying that he beat a Peterson, while Victor was defeated by one. This is the closest Brandon can come to harming Victor Ortiz outside the ring.

This Saturday night in his fight against Lamont Peterson, Victor Ortiz is facing two opponents, Lamont in the ring, and outside the ring the deadly envy of Brandon Rios. If Lamont wins, it will be Brandon Rios who will celebrate the victory. Victor Ortiz the kid from Kansas should win this fight. But here is what is going to drive Brandon Rios up the wall with envy and hatred: even if Victor loses the fight, Victor is so popular and liked that he will continue to command attention from the fans and he will be able to rehabilitate himself from any losses as long as he is young and has a chance at a comeback. Take for example Victor’s loss to Marcos Maidana, heavy hitter from Argentina, Victor did suffer a serious setback, but he easily bounced back from the loss, his fan base continued mostly intact.

Some people are born with a star, some aren’t.
