Andre Ward needs to fight Arthur Abraham in Germany to send a message

Image: Andre Ward needs to fight Arthur Abraham in Germany to send a messageBy Scott Gilfoid: With a lot of fans upset with the talented WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (23-0, 13 KO’s) because of his luck of being able to fight his first two Super Six tournament fights at home at the Oracle Arena, in Oakland, California, I think Ward should be gracious and brave enough to take on Abraham in his home country of Germany to show the boxing world that he can be beaten there. Abraham’s last opponent Carl Froch wanted no part of fighting Abraham in Germany, believing that he couldn’t win a decision over there.

I think it’s nonsense, because the judges would have picked the right fighter if it was conclusive like it was in Froch’s loss to Mikkel Kessler in April. But Ward needs to top Froch’s recent victory over Abraham and the best way to do that is to take the fight Abraham at the O2 World Arena, in Berlin, Germany. I not only think Ward can beat Abraham there but I see Ward doing a much better job against Abraham compared to Froch. Ward is a special talent, one of those stars that flash across the boxing world every 30 to 50 years.

Ward is destined for greatness, and it would be brilliant of him to show off his stuff in front of a packed O2 World Arena, in Berlin so that Ward could beat Abraham in front of his own fans. Anything short of that won’t be fair. At this point I kind of feel sorry for Abraham. He’s too small, too slow and too limited to compete against the bigger super middleweights and he’s going to get badly beaten by Ward next year in their semifinal Super Six bout. If the fight takes place in the United States, it won’t be good for Abraham even if it doesn’t take place in Oakland.

Since Abraham is struggling so badly, I think Ward and his management team need to have mercy on Abraham by agreeing to fight him in Germany. Instead of bellyaching and crying about needing a neutral venue, Ward would show his true class by immediately agreeing to fight Abraham there without the drama.
