Image: Khan vs. Maidana: How many power shots can Amir take before he's knocked senseless?By Scott Gilfoid: If this was a shadow boxing fight, I’d give it to WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) 100 out of 100 times. Unfortunately for Khan, this isn’t a show boxing fight or slap fight. Khan is facing one of the hardest punchers in the light welterweight division in Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s), and I don’t think Khan’s brittle chin will be up for the kind of pounding he’s going to take in this fight from Maidana. I see this fight as one of those bum fights that you see on Youtube where one guy just clocks the other one and knocks him out cold with a single shot.

Khan’s chin is too brittle, Maidana is much too powerful and Khan has been spoon fed for too long since the last time he got knocked out two years ago. After five fights of being fed nothing but the weakest of punchers to keep him upright, Khan faces a fighter with even more power than the one that knocked him out in 2008. The soft opposition has really done a remarkable job of giving Khan confidence himself.

Indeed, Khan is talking all the time about a future fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., and looking completely past the Maidana fight and the fight against the winner of the Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley fight. For a lot of fighter that have been knocked out as badly as Khan was, they keep their head on their shoulders and realize that they’ve spoon fed weak punching opponents to allow them to keep from getting knocked out again.

Khan, however, sees himself as the best fighter in the division based on wins over Paulie Malignaggi, an old Marco Antonio Barrera, Oisin Fagan, Andriy Kotelnik, and Dmitri Salita. I don’t see what there is too get excited about that bunch, and that’s why I think Khan is going to be in for a big shock on December 11th when he faces Maidana at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan is going to go out there thinking that he can dance around the ring, flicking his jab and trying to throw short flurries.

Maidana is going to step forward and ruin Khan’s world with a right hand to the jaw that’s going to shatter Khan’s glass jaw into a million pieces around the ring. I see Khan falling like he’s been shot with an elephant gun and hit the deck totally knocked out. I hope Khan’s famous trainer Freddie Roach can help drag Khan back to his stool after he’s been knocked out by Maidana. I don’t think it will take long for Maidana to knock him out once he starts throwing his big power shots. I give it maybe threw rounds and perhaps a dozen big power punches before Khan is knocked senseless and left on the canvas in a heap.
