Haye loses his jowls and pot belly, but may lose the fight to Harrison

Image: Haye loses his jowls and pot belly, but may lose the fight to HarrisonBy Scott Gilfoid: I must say that WBA heavyweight champion David Haye looks in great shape for his fight with Audley Harrison this Saturday night. The jowls and the pot belly are noticeably gone and Haye looks 100% better than the one that’s been carrying around all that excess blubber on his small frame. Sometimes when fighters think they’re putting on size what they’re actually putting on is useless lard and not muscle. Haye looks better at this weight – 210.5 pounds – for his fight against Harrison. With the jowls gone, Haye looks a lot younger, almost like someone else.

But I still have my doubts about Haye winning this fight. He’s been eating a real lean diet of fruit and vegetables training for this fight. In other words, Haye has been eating like a rabbit and I think he’s in good shape if this was a body building competition, but I don’t think Haye is in good fighting shape. I expect Haye to come out and be a lot weaker than he has in the past since moving up to the division. Stripping off all that blubber from around his jowls and lower midsection is probably going to come at a huge price in the way of lost power. And without his power, Haye is just another average undersized heavyweight from the UK.

We might as well have Harrison fighting Dereck Chisora, because Haye won’t have the same power he used to have and won’t be able to dent Harrison’s chin with his punches. If Haye is as weak as I think he is, I see him getting pummeled by the 253.5 pound Harrison tomorrow night. I don’t know if you can really appreciate what it’s like to compete against someone that outweighs you by that much weight, but let me tell you it’s like tacking a mountain. The power that you have at your weight is almost useless against the bigger fighter.

Harrison is going to absorb Haye’s shots like a sponge and then come back with his harder left hands and rock Haye. We already know that Haye has a glass jaw, and if small cruiserweights like Carl Thompson can stun Haye and take him out, then you can bet Harrison will do the same with his bigger power and size. Haye made a big mistake by burning off all that blubber. He might as well have kept it because coming in thin won’t help him in this fight. Haye should have stripped off the tonnage a long time ago in between fights instead of in training camp. I saw what Haye looked like before he started training and he was huge with a massive amount of fat. Taking that kind of weight of during training camp can’t be good.

Prediction: Harrison by brutal 7th round KO.
