Image: Hatton has lost two stones [28 pounds], says his father: Will Ricky be making a comeback soon?By Sean McDaniel: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) has lost an incredible amount of weight since getting out of the alcohol and drug treatment center, and is getting closer to his old fighting weight. In an article at Sky Sports News, Hatton’s father, Ray Hatton, said this about Ricky: “He’s fine at the moment. He’s working out at his own gym at home. He’s coming in to the gym here and working out with other boxers here. To day, he’s lost well over two stones, he’s looking very relaxed and getting back to his old self. He’s got a bit of a spring in his step working back here and giving a little advice and obviously he’s feeling a lot better.”

This is great news for boxing fans because if Hatton continues to drop weight, we might be seeing him get back in the ring in the near future. Hatton hasn’t set foot in the ring since being knocked out in two rounds by Manny Pacquiao last year in May. While a rematch with Pacquiao is obviously not something that will happen in the short term, Hatton could knock off a couple of fighters in tune-up bouts and then seek out a rematch with Pacquiao and/or Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Under the right conditions, Hatton could have a chance to win both fights. He will likely want full random blood testing before fighting Pacquiao again. And as for Mayweather, it would be best if the fight takes place in the UK where Hatton would be allowed to fight on the inside. The last time Hatton fought Mayweather, referee Joe Cortez constantly separated him and Mayweather when Hatton would try and work in close. This effectively allowed Mayweather to fight on the outside and pick Hatton off as he was coming in.

It’s good that Hatton is losing weight. One of his biggest problems in the last two years of his career was his tendency to put on a massive amount of weight with his eating and drinking habits. This would cause him to have to strip off weight in a hurry during training camps, leaving him looking thin and starved, with excess skin hanging down from his face from the weight loss. By taking the weight off and staying in shape, Hatton can avoid being weight drained and that would help him a lot more in his fights.
