Froch thinks Abraham is scared of him

Image: Froch thinks Abraham is scared of himBy Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) thinks Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) is afraid of him going into their Super Six tournament fight two weeks from now at the Hartwall Arena, in Helsinki, Finland. Froch, 33, speaking to fightnews.com, said “He [Abraham] is definitely afraid of me. It’s his first proper fight with a real puncher at 168.” Froch sounds like he’s dreaming. I don’t know why so many British fighters are concerned whether their opponents are afraid of them.

WBA heavyweight champion David Haye is always talking about his opponents being afraid of him, and then goes out and fights like a timid rabbit. Froch needs to forget about whether or not Abraham is afraid of him and focus more on trying to keep from getting knocked flat by him. Froch is lucky not to have lost all of his last three fights because he easily could have lost them to Jermain Taylor, Andre Dirrell and Mikkel Kessler. As it is, Froch was beaten by Kessler. Froch still doesn’t acknowledge that the better man won the fight – Kessler.

I expect Froch to get whipped by Abraham and likely knocked out. This is a fight that Froch could probably survive – and still lose – if he fought defensively and kept his guard up high to protect his vulnerable head. However, Froch is going to go out there with his guard low, his chin sticking out and walk straight into one of Abraham’s big right hands and get knocked out. The problem for Froch is he’s resistant to change. Whereas more adaptable fighters are able to change their skill sets when they’ve exposed, Froch seems unchanged from fight to fight and doesn’t adapt.

He got lucky against Taylor when he got a knockout in the last seconds, and Froch got a gift decision over Andre Dirrell, in his first fight in the Super Six tournament. I had Dirrell winning the fight by a lopsided 8 rounds to 3 with 1 even. The two European judges gave Froch the fight, allowing him to win it by a 12 round split decision. Finally, Froch’s luck ran out when he got spanked by Kessler. Now, it’s time for Froch to taste defeat once more, but this time it’s going to come by the way of knockout. Fear will have nothing to do with Abraham knocking Froch out, believe me. After the fight, Froch can talk about his theories on fear and fight behavior until he’s blue in the face, but somehow I don’t think anyone will be listening to him.
