Froch says he’s going to do whatever Abraham does

Early on at least we’ll see how that goes, and then if necessary I might step in and throw some big shots. But we;ll see how the fight goes. It depends on what he [Arthur Abraham] brings to the table.” So there it is. Froch is going to be trying to box Abraham on November 27th in their stage 3 Super Six tournament fight in Helsinki, Finland.

I’m surprised. I thought for sure Froch would go primitive on Abraham and try to slug with him, but it looks like that’s what Froch’s plan B strategy will be if things aren’t working well for him by trying to box. But of course Froch probably isn’t going to have much luck in trying to box Abraham. That’s like a checkers player suddenly trying to play chess and dominate a skilled player. Froch just doesn’t have the boxing skills needed to adopt a new role at this advanced stage in his career.

Froch has got to be what he’s always been – a slugger with poor defense – if he’s to have any chance at winning. Froch can’t try and mimic the talented Andre Dirrell and do the same things that Dirrell did in his dominating 11th round disqualification win over Abraham in March. Froch doesn’t have the hand speed, athletism of the defense to do the kinds of things that Dirrell was able to do to Abraham.

In the last part of the interview, Froch reversed course, saying “However he [Abraham] acts, I will react. So if he comes to fight, he’s going to get knocked out. If he comes to box the fights going twelve rounds. It’s as simple as that.” What a simple simon plan. That’s like no plan at all. So basically, Froch is going to ape Abraham and follow whatever fight plan he wants to use. In other words, Froch is going to fight Abraham’s fight. That isn’t exactly the smartest thing to do, don’t you think? If Abraham’s best plan on winning this fight is to slug with Froch, why then is Froch saying he’s going to accommodate him in this area and make it easy for him.

Shouldn’t Froch have his own plan, which should be for him to try and box Abraham instead of slugging it out. This is what I was afraid of with Froch. He’s got so much ego that he won’t allow himself to fight a smart fight by staying away from mixing it up with Abraham. I guess Frcoh wouldn’t live with himself if he didn’t slug it out with Abraham. This is why Froch is probably going to lose another fight. He was beaten in his last bout by Mikkel Kessler in April. To this day, Froch still thinks he should have won the fight.
